That being said, I spent a week or so watching a lot of war movies, which is a genre I typically stay away from. But I watched Saving Private Ryan, Platoon, The Pianist, and then Monuments Men all within about a week of each other, and let's just say that I wasn't the happiest person to be around for the next little while.
As wonderful as I thought Saving Private Ryan and The Pianist were, I don't think a film has ever really affected me the way Platoon did. I had no words to describe what I was feeling, other than just to say that I felt like I had lost complete faith in humanity. I'm not even really sure I can write about it without getting horribly bummed out again.
But that crosses off a few more from my list, so that's where I stand. So far I've seen 45/100 of the films on the AFI Top 100, with about a dozen of those that I need to rewatch (either it was too long ago to count, or I wasn't able to fully pay attention...like how I watched American Graffiti on a transatlantic flight on about 2 Ativan and a melatonin, so my memory of the movie is pretty hazy.)
Looks like I've got a lot more work to do, so let's hope for a few rainy days up ahead (no more snow though, please.)
